GRADING ABBREVIATONS FOR MAGAZINES AND COLLECTIBLES
Linda Tresham's House of Magazines

INTRODUCTION

Here's the information on the grading of my stock and the short forms I use in the entries in my online catalog.

First though I want to explain the process:

  • Every magazine that comes in is checked over and described and graded. This is reflected in each and every magazine entry on this website.

  • All magazines are Complete, unless otherwise noted.

  • I include in my descriptions all obvious problems should they exist in a specific magazine

  • And to clarify to anyone who is still uncertain: I sell complete magazines, not pages from a magazine, or the cover of a magazine, I sell COMPLETE - WHOLE Magazines. And these are original issues, not reissues, or copies.

HOW TO READ THE ENTRIES

Example:

PEEPLE

  • 27 Mar 1990 NM Demy Moor
    inside: Bruse Willyss $15.00

27 Mar 1990 - The date of the magazine

NM - the grade, and in this case NM stands for Near Mint condition.

Demy Moor - the name after the grade always depicts the cover subject.

inside: - inside always comes after the cover subject and means "Inside this magazine there are articles/interviews on the the following stars".

Also if an appearance by the subject is a page or less, I always say so. If you don't see a page number beside the entry that means the interview/article on the subject is more than one page. If you have any questions please contact me.

If you see the work tidbit that means a small news piece less than half a page in size.

COMMON ABBREVIATIONS FOR MAGAZINES

Key to Abbreviations:

co -- subject/star appears on the cover of the magazine only. No interview/article inside on them.

cvr -- Subject/star is the *main* person on the cover and is featured in an interview/article inside.

"a" -- Subject/star is featured in an interview/article inside, but is not on the cover. "a" = appears inside

ml -- mailing label, also know as a subscription label. This means that there is a mailing label affixed to the front cover of the magazine.

mlpo -- mailing label has been pulled off the front cover of the magazine.

pg -- Page

GRADING ABBREVIATONS FOR MAGAZINES AND COLLECTIBLES

Near Mint (NM)

  • Sharp, Glossy, bought directly from the newstand by me when the issue first came out.

Fine (FN)

  • Some minor wear, still very clean, glossy. A gently read magazine.

Very Good (VG)

  • Slightly worn magazine, may have rub marks, corner creases,
    small tears, stessed spine.

Good (G)

  • A magazine in this grade would exhibit signs of medium to advanced wear. Considered a good reading copy, a filler for your collection. Usually the insides are still in pretty good shape.
